With the holidays just around the corner, now is the perfect time to start planning some fun holiday activities for your kids. From making gingerbread houses to watching holiday movies, there are plenty of ways to keep them entertained during this festive time of year. Here are six great ideas to get you started.
-
Cook and Bake
Set aside time each week for baking or cooking. Allowing the kids to select dishes for which you have ingredients can help you involve them from the start, as it is one of the best holiday activities for kids. However, if you have a young child, getting them to sit for the full procedure could be challenging due to their limited attention span. Read the recipe aloud and encourage participation as much as you can. Avoid trying to do everything by yourself.
-
Make a Family Tree as Part of the Holiday Activities
For kids aged 8 to 12, this is one of our recommended holiday activities. They can create this using a template on chart paper or on their PCs. Depending on how many generations they want the family tree to be, go back as far as possible. Learning the names and relationships of great-grandparents, uncles, and aunts is entertaining and educational. If possible, include old pictures.
-
Paint Stones
The possibilities for decorating stones are virtually endless. Give your kids a few round, flat stones, acrylic paint, and brushes. Let them paint whatever they like after applying a base coat. It might be something straightforward like a balloon or Christmas tree or something intricate like a sunset. Children 3 and older are the best candidates for this activity.
-
Make Gingerbread Houses
Making gingerbread houses with your partner or family members of any age is one of the nicest holiday activities you can do together. If you have the time, create gingerbread instead of buying pre-fab houses from the store.
-
Make Ornaments
The beautiful memories you can relive year after year by making your ornaments can be created for little to nothing. Before baking, poke a hole in the top of the gingerbread men so a ribbon can hang them. Or make ornaments out of fruit, popsicle sticks, or cinnamon sticks.
-
Holiday Party Games
Gather the older kids around the table or fire and play festive party games for a fun-filled evening. Alternately, start your own personal customs, as Tony and Sage have.
